Beach 1 Gallery Artist of the Month – Karen Fuller
My work reflects an affinity for small, discarded objects (seed pods, old buttons, hog fence staples, shells from my neighbor’s quail eggs) , enjoyment of hand beading and growing up with a dad who could make anything. Years ago, I saw a small lamp in a shop in Seattle with a grey lampshade. When turned on, an image of an elephant appeared! I was determined to make something this magical. I began to bead with a widening array of materials, taught myself to paint with acrylics (because pencil sketches don’t show on the lampshades) and selected, or built lamps for each shade.
I am inspired by plants and animals in my yard, and around Camano Island, where I have lived for three years, customers with beautiful old lamps, found objects, and various pieces of wood. Each lamp has a theme that unites the base, shade and
beading. Photos of my work include both on and off views of each lamp.

Karen is a member of the Stanwood Camano Art Guild, and the Camano Arts Association. Her lamps have been displayed at the CAA Gateway Gallery.
Her art will be displayed and for sale the entire month of April. The Gallery is open 7 days a week. Beach 1 Gallery in Camano Country Club.
