Kathy Hastings
Kathy’s love of water, her joy in experimenting and her travel experiences have informed her art. Her background includes art degrees from the UW and Art Center and over twenty years working in the Artist-in-Residence in several states.
For years she traveled with her camera and a big red kayak on top of her van exploring NW waterways. Her WaterLines Series focuses on the textures and colors she photographs around the waterfront. She prints the digital image and then uses traditional encaustic techniques (hot wax combined with oil paint) to enhance the image. The images from Birds and Boat Hulls are hull textures combined with birds, particularly herons and crows. Her heron image was chosen for the CAA 2014 tour poster.
With the onset of Covid she developed a new series called Circle Play, also encaustic.
Her most recent experiments are with acrylic collage in a series called ColorScapes.
