Things I love — floating on water, textures of old, worn things, and experimenting in the studio. My training is from the Art Center College of Design in California and the UW, and I have over twenty years experience working in the Artist-in-Residence Program in Colorado, Oregon and Washington.
For years I traveled with a camera and a big red kayak on top of my van exploring NW waterways. My WaterLines Series focuses on the textures and colors I photograph around the waterfront. I print the digital image, glue it on a birch panel, and then use traditional encaustic techniques (hot wax combined with oil paint) to enhance the image. The images from the series Birds and Boat Hulls are hull textures combined with photos of birds, particularly herons and crows. You may have seen my heron piece on the CAA 2014 tour poster.
My most recent experiments are with acrylic collage in a series called ColorScapes. They are experiments in color using torn paper I print using a gelatin plate.
